
Will is a consultant Colon & Rectal Surgeon, Associate Professor of Surgery and Director of the International Fellowship in Colon & Rectal Surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, USA.
Will undertook a BSc in psychology before obtaining his medical degree (MBChB) at the University of Otago, New Zealand. He worked in New Zealand and Australia before attaining Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (General Surgery) in 2017.
He subsequently completed advanced colorectal and pelvic floor training with the Department of Colorectal Surgery at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust. His year in Oxford exposed him to a broad range of colorectal disease processes and management. Will was also appointed as the Academic Fellow during his time there and taught at the Oxford University Medical School.
Will completed a further year of advanced training as the International Fellow in Colon and Rectal Surgery at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. The Mayo Clinic has consistently been ranked as the top hospital in the world and recognized as the best gastroenterology and GI surgery hospital in the nation by U.S. News & World Report every year since 1990. At Mayo, Will became certified in robotic colorectal surgery and was trained in advanced and recurrent rectal cancer, recalcitrant inflammatory bowel disease and complex tertiary referral colorectal surgery.
He also holds a Master of Public Health from Harvard University, where he was a Fulbright Scholar. He went on to work as an external consultant to the World Health Organization in Geneva and serve on the Advisory Board of Safe Surgery New Zealand. Will helped established Auckland University’s Indigenous and Global Surgery Group and has spent time working, researching and teaching in the Republic of Vanuatu.
Will loves travelling and and experiencing different cultures. In his spare time you will find him water skiing, snow skiing, playing golf, racket sports or getting out into the great outdoors. He is an accomplished violinist and singer.
